10 Biggest News Stories of the Week: Hyundai Palisade Vs. Toyota Highlander ⦠Vs. Coronavirus Car Deals
No one can yet predict if and how car buyers' preferences and proclivities may be forever changed in the aftermath of the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis. But what we do know is that, prior to the pandemic, three-row SUVs were the family-car force majeure. In the interest of helping shoppers make the most informed purchase possible, we pitted two of the most popular three-row SUVs on the market — the 2020 Toyota Highlander and the 2020 Hyundai Palisade — against one another in a battery of intensive tests in a people-hauling fight to the finish.

Our head-to-head comparison tested everything from acceleration, ride quality and braking to interior quality, media connectivity and cargo space, as well as as-tested value. Spoiler alert: The Palisade, which earned Cars.com's top overall honor as our Best of 2020 vehicle, triumphed over the Highlander. But just because we're obviously sweet on the Palisade, doesn't mean the Highlander didn't make for a formidable foe — winning or tying in a full half of the categories.
While the Palisade may have beaten the Highlander, even their combined desirability wasn't enough to overcome our continued coverage of the current global health crisis' impact on car shopping. The three-row SUV faceoff lands at No. 3 on our weekly list of the most popular articles on Cars.com, while two dedicated to the coronavirus and car buying land in the top to spots.
At No. 1 is a special edition of our monthly rundown of the best deals available on a new car, rounding up not only the deepest discounts but also the additional incentives available as automakers try to move metal amid flagging sales hit hard by COVID-19. The April best-deals story features the Buick Encore, Kia Optima, Nissan Murano and Chevrolet Bolt EV, so if you're interested in any of those and you're in the financial position — or perhaps serious need — to buy under the circumstances, there's lots of opportunity.
Meanwhile, our No. 2 story of the week is a quintet of Cars.com recommendations for models shoppers should consider amid Hyundai's 0% financing offer for qualified buyers for a loan term as long as eight years. Recos include the Santa Fe, Tucson, Kona, Venue and Elantra GT N Line. Again, if you fit the profile, these unfortunate times may be a fortunate time to buy a new car.
In other coronavirus coverage, we compiled a comprehensive state-by-state guide to where you can and can't buy a car, as well as have one repaired, under current stay-at-home, shelter-in-place and other regional measures. If you're daunted by the often confusing and seemingly conflicting language of government COVID-19 orders, be sure to consult our guide, which you can find at No. 6 this week.
There's plenty more where that came from — and it doesn't all pertain to the pandemic, either. Here are the top 10 news stories Cars.com readers couldn't get enough of in the past week:
